Nail Surgery
Nail Surgery at The Healthcare Hub
Our nail surgery package involves 3 appointments. One to carry out the nail surgery and 2 follow-up appointments to make sure that you are healing properly. One follow-up a week after the surgery to check progress and re-dress the toe and another one 4-5 weeks following that to check healing.
What is Nail Surgery?
Nail surgery is where a toenail is removed by our qualified HCPC registered specialist podiatrist. During the procedure a local anaesthetic will be administered to the affected toe or toes. Once the toe has gone numb the podiatrist will then look to remove the nail. Once the nail has been removed our podiatrist will then give you a dressing and a nail surgery pack that includes information and further dressings.
Common conditions we use Nail Surgery for
At ACE we would assess any lower limb injury, over the years we have become specialists in the treatment of common conditions seen week in, week out. Here is a list of the most common conditions treated here at ACE.
In growing or Ingrown toenails
This is where part of the nail starts to irritate or penetrate the skin next to the nail. This is often very painful and if the skin is broken, can lead to infection. This often affects the big toe, however, it can be seen in any of the toes. People will often opt to have the nail permanently removed and an acid will be used to prevent the nail from re-growing. Some patients prefer just having part of the nail removed and other prefer the whole nail. This will be discussed during your appointment with our podiatrist.
Fungal Nails
Fungal toenails can be very difficult to treat and can leave the toenails quite damaged. We have seen a number of patients who have asked for the fungal nail to be removed, so that the nail be can be treated on re-growth and the fungal infection prevented. We find that patient usually opt for nail regrowth following removal of fungal toenails so acid is not used. This will be discussed by our podiatrist before carrying out the procedure.
Involuted Nail
Sometimes nails have a tendency to become involuted, which means that they start to pinch the nail bed. This can become quite uncomfortable so patients will often opt to have these types of nails removed and regrowth prevented. This will often result in an acid being applied to the nail bed. Our podiatrist will discuss this in depth before any treatment is administered.
